Latest Updates from Our Project:

Thousand Errors
about 3 years ago – Thu, Apr 13, 2023 at 09:13:33 AM

Not literally. But it was the cutesy name I put at the top of my list of every typo, layout glitch, and other to-do item that resulted from my close read-through of the printed proof of Thousand Arrows.

printed proof (and a notice from my local department of sanitation)

The most widespread issue was that one of the fonts we'd chosen turned out not to be available to be licensed for print, so the nice little flower bullets ended up printing as big Xs. There were some easy-to-fix typos, a couple of small layout glitches and then all of the knock-on effects of fixing things. Nothing especially difficult to handle, but changing the glyph of those bullets to a printable one ended up shifting a lot of text around, which in turn created a lot of new problems that it took a bit longer to fix.

We've also moved the map to the back of the book, at the end of the void chapter. This had been at the front of the digital version previously. It turns out that image had been an old version of the map and had some already-fixed-elsewhere typos, so that has been replaced now too.

The biggest non-error fix is that a small edit has been made to the text of the Foot Soldier's move "Formation Fighter." Functionally, it works pretty much exactly the same way, we've just rewritten the text of the move for clarity. I've updated the playbooks download on the galileogames.com website as well to reflect this change.

I've also uploaded the replacement digital version to BackerKit and DriveThruRPG

So when are the books coming?

The proofs were approved April 11 and have been submitted to production. The printer estimate is that they'll be ready to ship to me April 25 (maybe earlier). This isn't too far off when we expected, and it probably just means we'll be packing everything at once.

What else is going on?

I'm working on putting together the Fox playbook to upload to the galileogames.com website, it's a little bit of a weird one that doesn't follow the same format of either a role or an allegiance alone. It's a combination playbook that can also be used as either one. So that makes figuring out how to organize and present the information more complicated.

The Corsair / Artisan / Merchant are also entering the pipeline and being nominally simpler, will hopefully be wrangled next week.

In non-Thousand Arrows news, Brennan has just passed along a finished draft of a new game, and I've been working on a variety of new (and older) games that are starting to move from the back-burner in the small amounts of downtime that I've got available right now.

And finally, by the time the next update rolls around, I have my fingers crossed that the first handful of books will have arrived at their destinations.

March Update - The one where we are printing books
about 3 years ago – Mon, Mar 20, 2023 at 08:43:12 AM

I am deeply pleased to announce that the books have been ordered, the dice are in production queues, and the stickers and cloth map are all on hand.

So I’ve triggered the final lock countdown to charge for shipping via BackerKit, order packing supplies, and make sure all the rest of the shipping needs are lined up and ready to go. Please keep an eye out for emails from BackerKit just in case your card is declined/expired/whatever.

So here’s what timelines look like:

Books have to get their final proofing. I’m expecting a PDF copy in about five days and then a printed proof maybe late next week.

The proofing process tends to take one-to-two weeks to turn around which could be faster if there are no problems. Then the printing is expected to be another two-to-three weeks. Finally, getting the books delivered will take another handful of days.

We’ll start shipping books and stickers immediately since they are the most straightforward items to mail out since they will fit into the media mail category and a bulk of those orders will be pretty much identical. We'll also try to handle the add-on orders as soon as possible too, since getting those complicated items out of the way will make the rest more straightforward.

We expect books and orders with add-ons to start shipping out starting approximately the third week of April.

The dice were ordered at the beginning of the month and are expected to take approximately eight weeks from the order date, which puts them about six weeks out at this point.

Speaking of which, here's the sample photo. Dice orders will get two of the orange and one of the purple as an advantage die. The customized face replaces the 1 on these dice.

We’ll be shipping the dice and scrolls separately from the books, to take advantage of media mail pricing and to minimize the overall timeframe of shipping.

We expect dice and scrolls to start shipping out starting at the end of April.

And finally, we've closed the pre-order store on BackerKit, but nearly everything can still be (pre-)ordered via our galileogames.com website.

Thanks for sticking with us, it's been a whole journey and we're looking forward to shipping out books to you all very soon.

Tis the Season… for an update
over 3 years ago – Sat, Dec 24, 2022 at 11:14:28 AM

Greetings friends,

We’ve hit our “magic number!” 90% of surveys have been answered, which gives us a MUCH more accurate view of how many books we’re going to need to print, expect to have standing by for super-late-backer inventory purposes, and how many extras we can afford to print and have available as sale inventory for 2023 and into the future.

That means we’re going to plan to lock down orders a little earlier than we’d hoped! Instead of March, we’re going to plan for January to lock the orders down, get new quotes from a couple of different manufacturers, submit print files, and get books ordered. We’ve also got a designer on deck at that point to whip the stickers and dice into shape and then get those ordered as well. If all goes well, we might even be able to start fulfilling everything by March!?

With that, we at Galileo wish you all the best for the current/impending holidays.

-Tim
